2011 World Championships of Surf Kayaking

The Eastern Surf Kayaking Association, in coordination with the US East Surf Kayak Team, has been awarded the bid to host the 2011 World Surf Kayaking Championships on the east coast of the United States. Our mission is to provide the best organization possible, making the World Champion-ships of Surf Kayaking a prestigious event that emphasizes the primary goals of the World Surf Kayaking Association.

What is surf kayaking?

Surf kayaking utilizes specially designed kayaks to ride a wave in much the same way that a board surfer would. Many surf kayaks utilize fins and other surf related design concepts. In competition surf kayakers are judged on how dynamically they ride a wave, carving, slashing, and throwing finishing moves. In this way surf kayaking competitions are very similar to board surfing events. Surf kayaking is a relatively young, but quickly growing adventure sport.

What is the World Championships of Surf Kayaking?
The World Championships of Surf Kayaking, governed by the Word Surf Kayaking Association, is an event occurring on odd numbered years that brings together the top surf kayaking competitors from around the world. Individual and team champions are crowned, and the event features competitors from over 20 countries including Japan, Wales, England, Ireland, Australia, and many more. Teams line the beach, waving flags and cheering their competitors on, fostering a sense of camaraderie.
